Janie Coleman is an Austin fine artist who is as
adept in oil and mural painting as in pencil or pen
illustration. She has done more than 150
commissions for individuals, businesses, museums
and/or or zoological exhibits. Her special expertise is
in animal portraiture, but she is equally adept at
painting people, landscape and still life.
Education
Janie Coleman studied art at the University of
Hawaii, commercial art and illustration under
renowned illustrator Jack Unruh at East Texas
State University, and continues private study under
acclaimed Texas fine artist Phillip Wade.
Work Experience
Janie was assistant art director and illustrator for
five years for the Dallas Zoo where she illustrated
most of the birds, fish, mammals and reptiles in the
vast Dallas Zoo collection - including a large mural
at the Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park She also
worked several years as an illustrator in Dallas for
the Tracey Locke Agency and the Bloom
Agency.
